Entrepreneurship, Self-Care, and Why the "I'll Sleep When I Die" Mentality May Not Be The Best For You

This Moment.png

When it comes to being an entrepreneur, or even a network marketer, it’s easy to want to be in grind mode.

To focus in on a goal and stay up to the early hours of the morning, to mull over every detail, every call, every new sign up, every step. Having focus isn’t a bad thing, but like with many things in life, too much of any one thing can be bad.

Somewhere along the way, the "I'll Sleep When I Die" mentality became glorified, but our peace of mind and balance seems to have diminished. Now I’m not saying focus and determination is bad, but if you are a parent/spouse/partner/etc AND an entrepreneur, you may want to consider a little balance.

Here are 5 Things to Do Instead:

1. Be Consistent

Rather than work yourself into oblivion, focus on being consistent. Consistency is what builds. If you go hard on something for a week, then stop for a few, only to pick it back up for a month and then fall off with your activity for 3 months, it’s like starting from scratch every time.

Consistency allows for you to build a presence, rapport, trust. Rather than grinding in spurts, be consistent.

2. Create More Than You Consume

When you make the decision to be your own boss, you have to switch up your lifestyle in more ways than one. Where it may have been okay to spend weekends binging on Netflix, unless you’re doing market research, spend more time creating. Whether that’s a series of informational videos for YouTube, training content, tutorials, infographics, etc.- CREATE!

3. Continue To Learn

Make sure to keep professional and personal development a priority. Just like doctors are expected to continue to learn so the can be abreast of the latest in the medical field, it’s important for us and entrepreneurs and marketers to continue to learn. To stay abreast of buying behaviors, what people want and are looking for.

4. Take Breaks & Check Your Energy

Autopilot is REAL. I learned a long time ago to take small breaks in the day to check my energy… and my posture. Raising our vibration, our energy, taking a moment to just smile in the mirror and say an affirmation can completely get us out of a rut, or a funk. I personally like setting alarms in my phone for random times so I’m reminding throughout the day to be present and to be thankful. Even if you don’t like Kit Kats, we all need to take a break. See what I did there? ;)

5. Pivot When Necessary

It may sound simple, but rather than bumping your head against a wall when you face a roadblock, chose to pivot. And that’s another reason why breaks are important- they allow us to sort of wake up and often can help shift our perspectives. To view our challenges through a different angle. To pivot is to turn, to rotate, to oscillate. If you’re busy working yourself into the grave, you’re much less likely to pivot, you’ll be to tired or to blind to.

With so many of us playing so many roles in life-
professional, coworker, boss,
spouse or significant other,
parent,
friend,
child,
volunteer,
entrepreneur...
it’s easy to get stuck on autopilot.
To just go through the motions daily. And it’s easy to forget to power we have in now.

What we do or don’t do today,  affects our tomorrow.

You’re more powerful than you think, do your best in this moment. Don’t run your self ragged. It’s okay to get your rest now, just be intentional with your time, and your efforts.
